​DISCUSSION: Here is a neat update from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Satellite and Information Service about the somewhat recently launched GOES-R satellite.

GOES-16 rocked into space on November 19, 2016, at 6:42pm from Florida's Kennedy Space Center. Since then, NOAA and NASA scientists and engineers have been in close contact with the spacecraft, checking its vitals and testing its instruments. Although the satellite won't be fully operational for a few more months, it has begun to return some preliminary, non-operational data and imagery.
