DISCUSSION: As we look back to a few days over 18 years ago today, we arrive at a very historic severe weather outbreak in United States history. Back on May 3rd, 1999, many parts of the south-central United States experienced a widespread onslaught of severe weather which produced a dangerous combination of heavy rainfall, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, large hail, and strong long-tracked tornadoes. A big thank you to Meteorologist Brad Sowder for the video footage attached above. Note how wide this particular wedge tornado during the point at which it was at its greatest intensity.
