DISCUSSION: Within the last couple of hours, there has been an increasingly active convective situation unfolding across many parts of eastern Australia as reflected by the convective storms identified in the image above. You will also note how in many of these storms there is a relatively high lightning strike density, illustrating the intense nature of these storms over the past few hours. More specifically, there are currently scattered storms spread across the Darling Downs, the Central Highlands and the Capricornia Coast. Some of these storms may produce locally heavy rain and strong to damaging winds so be mindful of this storm threat in the coming hours if you are in the path of any of these strong convective storms. The only good news is that over the next several hours the majority of these storms will be slowing moving offshore which will slowly mitigate the threat for major impacts from this ongoing severe weather. Nonetheless, at all times, if thunder roars you should always head indoors!
