WINTER STORM FOR WESTERN AND CENTRAL NEW YORK STARTING TONIGHT! CLICK BELOW FOR THE DISCUSSION AND DETAILS! (credit: NWS Buffalo, New York)

DISCUSSION: As of this afternoon, a strengthening low-pressure system centered over the Western Great Lakes region is producing widespread snow across most of Michigan and parts of Western/Central New York.  At the surface, many reporting stations across Western and Central New York are already reporting visibilities between 0.75 and 1.5 miles due to heavier snow beginning to move into the region.  During the evening and overnight hours this system will continue to intensify; generating stronger mid-level moisture/air-stream convergence in an already sub-freezing air-mass aloft.  This mid-level air-stream convergence (mid-level frontogenesis) will produce locally heavy falling and blowing snowfall which will make for very hazardous travel!  Attached below is the current regional radar imagery composite across the Northeast corridor as well as the latest forecast graphic from the National Weather Service office in Buffalo, New York!
