DISCUSSION: As a developing low-pressure system spinning over the Northeast Pacific Ocean continues moving east-northeast towards Western North America, increasing moisture content is being advected towards the Southwestern United States. As a result of this incoming moisture, lighter rainfall will begin impacting parts of Southern California, Southern/Central Arizona and Southern New Mexico between Thursday night and Friday morning. This rainfall should help alleviate some of the persistent drought conditions which are still in place currently. In the loop below, note how you can identify the incoming moisture by way of the areas of blue and green which are moving to the northeast out ahead of the low-pressure center.
