On behalf of the entire team of weather correspondents who write at
the Global Weather and Climate Center (GWCC), welcome to our
site. As you may already know, our mission is to help our readers
learn more about weather and climate and be better prepared to
cope with weather and climate impacts on many different time and
space scales.
Although we will report on extreme weather and climate events
(especially those that affect life and property), we are not, and do not
want to become, a “real-time” weather news site. There are more
than enough of these out there (TV, private sector business and
Federal, and sometimes state, governmental agencies). Instead, we
are working toward providing the best information we can about the
underpinnings of the science, as we report on real-time events.
But, we recognize that while you are here, you may want at least a
brief update on weather happenings across the U.S. For that reason,
the GWCC home page contains a four-panel graphic that provides
the latest satellite and radar imagery, as well as the latest “Day 1”
Storm Prediction Center severe weather outlook.
These are just at the proverbial, “tip of the iceberg,” when it comes to weather
observations, data, and forecasts. Hence, we are exploring the
addition or substitution of panels to fit the needs of our readership
and possibly other changes (e.g. expand/alter this four-panel graphic
framework to include various global regions, set up pages where a
larger array of data sets and forecasts are available). Obviously, we
welcome your input as we move forward.
In addition, a growing number of TV weathercasters, private forecast
operations and others are joining with GWCC and sharing their blog
posts with us, significantly increasing our ability to cover more
weather stories in more places.
So, thanks for being a part of the GWCC family. Please visit often
and please let others know about us. We’ll continue to do the best
job we can at providing you quality, authentic, weather reporting.
Sincerely,
Jordan L. Rabinowitz, Operations Director
