Heavy Rainfall Potential For Southern California! (credit: NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard, California)1/4/2017 DISCUSSION: In the wake of the incoming moisture plume linked to the current atmospheric river moving ashore into parts of the western United States, the threat for a high-impact heavy rainfall event remains an issue for many people across southern-to-central California and surrounding areas. As noted in the graphic above (courtesy of forecasters over at the National Weather Service office located in Oxnard, California), there will likely be a number of broken periods of moderate to heavy rainfall across many parts of the NWS Oxnard forecast coverage area. Therefore, if you or someone you know happens to live in this area or contacts you that they are near or approaching flooded roadways, be sure to urge them to remain cautious and avoid those roadways so as to avoid getting swept away in floodwaters. In addition to the heavy rainfall, there also is a legitimate concern for strong, gusty winds as the heart of the atmospheric river (and associated mid-level energy) moves further inland with passing time.
