DISCUSSION: As discussed in the video discussion above, attached directly above the aforementioned video briefing is a neat animated multi-layer perspective on what is referred to in the atmospheric science world as an "atmospheric river." Atmospheric rivers are deep, narrow corridors of tropical moisture which propagate across parts of or sometimes entire oceanic basins. As these long, narrow, and deep plumes of tropical moisture travel across entire oceanic basins, they often impose significant threats to cities, states, and sometimes entire countries. This is due to the fact that as they move ashore, they can generate major flooding events across large regions. Feel free to watch the video discussion above for more details!
