Nasty Blizzard Conditions Roaring Through Parts Of Australia! (credit: Higgins Storm Chasing)

DISCUSSION: As a very strong low-pressure system slows pushes eastward just off the southern Australia during the next few days, a major winter storm will continue impacting many parts of South-Central to Southeastern Australia.  This threat for high-impact winter weather is the result of efficient moisture transport travelling northward from the Great Australian Bight and into southern sections of Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and eventually Tasmania as well where there is much deeper cold air in place (i.e., supportive of heavy, accumulating snowfall).  Having said that, there are already very formidable blizzard conditions in place across southern parts of Western Australia as captured in the footage below (courtesy of Tom Lievense and Amber Bennett). Therefore, people who live in or are vacationing in the aforementioned parts of Australia which are currently positioned to the east of this strengthening winter storm should prepare now.  To learn more about other high-impact weather events from across Australia and the South Pacific, be sure to click here!

Major Flooding Plaguing Parts Of Coastal New South Wales! (credit: Higgins Storm Chasing)

DISCUSSION: As a strengthening low-pressure system continued to slowly move through parts of Eastern Australia over the past few days, there was a consequence in the form of heavy/persistent rainfall across parts of Eastern Queensland and Eastern New South Wales. Despite the fact that this is considered to be the Southern Hemisphere's Winter-time season, both heavy rainfall and accumulating snowfall events in the higher elevations of Queensland and New South Wales are often a common occurrence.  Moreover, it is worth mentioning that several accumulating snowfall events have already been verified across the some of the higher elevations across parts of Eastern Australia.  Attached below is an image of some of the major flooding that has unfolded in light of the aforementioned heavy rainfall persisting for quite some time; especially across parts of Eastern New South Wales.  To learn more about other high-impact weather events from across Australia and the South Pacific, be sure to click here!
